PITTSBURGH: An Explorer's Guide

The 42S car in central Beechview
Beechview is a pleasant residential neighborhood in a forgotten corner of southern Pittsburgh. Most Pittsburghers know it only as the neighborhood where the main streetcar route still runs on the street.

Like many Pittburgh neighborhoods, Beechview is safer than the average suburb. The streetcars are frequent, the shops have most of what you need, and there are a few surprisingly trendy restaurants. Housing is affordable--cheap by the standards of any other major metropolis--and many of the houses are Edwardian beauties, though sometimes hidden under decades of mistaken improvements.

TRANSIT: Visit Beechview on the Route 42S or 42L streetcar. All stops from Traymore to Neeld are in Beechview. The central Beechview business district is between Fallowfield and Coast. A small cluster of good restaurants is near Bousted.
